Hi! I have alot of spanish knitting pattens but no translations for them. I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this problem. I have been on the internet but with no joy.If one of your members could help me I would be over the moon. Thankyou! Izzyw. |

Izzyw, you might want to try asking this question in Random Stuff or some such...it would probably get much more traffic than here. That said, I did find this that might help you:

I work with some Spanish speakers, but they don't knit, so I don't know if they could help. I'd also suggest checking Alta Vista's Babel Fish site. The translations aren't great, but you can usually figure out what it's supposed to mean.
Good luck!

You also might try writing down the words used the most in the abbreviations (i.e. finding the word for knit, purl, yarn-over, etc.) and taking a few of those words (which you won't know what they mean yet!) to a store w/ a *big* spanish dictionary-- trying out the dictionary a bit. It wouldn't help you get the grammar of directions right, but (BIG assumptions here) if you have some other experience w/ patterns in English and there is some sort of schematic there w/ measurements, you might be able to figure it out.

Yzzyw, we are very busy drawing up a proper Glossary of knitting terms for the benefit of all KR-addicts. Secret squirrel offered to help with Spanish. Perhaps if you contact her she will help you out until our multilingual list is available.
Best of luck!
Annemieke
When you reach for the stars you may not quite get one, but you won't come up with a handful of mud either. |

Izzyw,
I'd be happy to help - I'm fluent in Spanish. Email me and we'll see what we can do!
