THe crock pots I've seen pop right out of the base for cleaning. I guess there are some one piece units?

Most of them do have a removable crock, but there are some that don't.
Even with a removable crock, sometimes there is an unavoidable "crust" around the inside of the crock which is a pain in the neck to clean. And dark colored foods, like red beans or some stews will stain the crock permanently.
Also, with a crockpot liner, you can safely use your crock for dying, and still use it for food!

Hey I think it's a grand idea! I now use the aluminimum pans for 90% of my baking, especially the dead animal for Mr. TMM. No clean up and it's recyclable!
