The governor has said that he wants the mural out of the Department of Labor because it doesn't fairly depict the perspective of employers: "Were the bosses in the mural? Were the employers in the mural? History is about two sides ... I think it's inappropriate for [the mural] to be in the Department of Labor when everyone comes in, employers and employees, and they're confronted by one side of the question."
On Friday, LePage's office sent out a press release asking for new artwork "that depicts the cooperative relationship that exists between Maine’s job creators and the workers who power Maine’s economy" that can be displayed in the Labor Department's administrative offices and in the lobbies of career centers around the state.
In addition to the mural being removed, LePage's office also ordered the names be changed on eight rooms in the Department of Labor, many of which commemorate former labor leaders and one of which honors the first female U.S. Cabinet secretary.
LePage's office originally said that the governor made his decision after complaints from businesses owners, eventually pointing to a single anonymous letter, in which the author said that when looking at the mural, he or she felt like it was something from "communist North Korea."

Maybe the "business owner" who complained would like to see children working in a sweatshop or something depicting the Triangle Shirtwaist Company Fire.

This "letter" sounds like the letter that Rep. Pearce in AZ used to further his stance on immigration. It was supposedly written by a substitute teacher and was extremely racist. He stated that most Latino students “do not want to be educated but rather be gang members and gangsters.” and went on to say “when it came to completing Mark Twain assignment, most of the students refused to ‘open the textbook, tore the pages out of the book, or threw the textbooks at each other.’” Turns out all five area school districts stated that Hill had not worked for them in the past two years. And one district also stated "it does not teach its 8th grade students about Mark Twain as Hill alluded to in his letter. A spokesperson said Mark Twain is not part of the districts curriculum for middle school students." (from News Taco) They have to move very quickly on their agenda because sooner or later all the facts come out. Although, unfortunately, the damage has already been done.

This quote comes from another source, but shows the ignorance about what the word "Labor" actually means:
"According to LePage spokesman Dan Demeritt, the administration felt the mural and the conference room monikers showed "one-sided decor" not in keeping with the department's pro-business goals."
Department of Labor is "pro-business"? Is this something brand new?
There are three things important to "enterprise", and those are Capital, Labor, and resources, which can be, among other things, land or raw materials.
Capital is not the only thing that has to have it's "say" in a healthy economy. We have a lot of truly ignorant people in office these days. I wonder if they can ever overcome their greed and ignorance fast enough to be able to help heal America?
Edited to clear up atrocities of spelling and bad proof reading

Me, too, Azblue. It seems to get worse every day. I'm trying to stay sane, take care of what needs to be cared for, and hang on.
What will possibly save our hearts, and eventually the country, me thinks, will be that there are so many kind people on both sides of any divide who are trying to build bridges.
This is not to say that Faux news either "gets it", or that it isn't missing the event, because they are bottom feeders heavily into experiments in mind control for the masses while killing off any legitimate source of fact based reporting. How's that for a bit of vinegar? lol

I have been thinking about this and trying to come up with substitute wall decor for the Maine labor building. So I think they should have a "Boss Hall of Fame". Not for those industrialists who bought their own sheen of respectability by setting up foundations, which I actually appreciate. But for those we might recognize, and who should get their props, like:
Mr. Dithers Montgomery Burns
I'm sure there are more, but that is a start.

I can't resist commenting. Gov. LePage has put his foot in his mouth several times since being elected in Nov. Prior to being the Gov. he was the CEO of a "surplus and salvage" company with several stores throughout the state, so, there, is his bias toward employers. It seems that the mural is destined for a museum in Lewiston, Me. Personally, I think if it had to be taken down, it should have gone to the Maine State Museum. judy (a maine-ac) |

flicka, for the banking industry we can have some mafia bosses. I refuse to name names though. hehe
Judy, I so agree. The Mural should go to somewhere in your State. Such Cheek!
Shaggy, true for ya! I don't dare say what I really think. I think of those Irish or even Italian curses that used to be pronounced on enemies by the "Grannies in Black"..
Say, we can start a new subversive group and call it that.

That was actually their first slogan, but focus groups indicated they should go with "Fair and Balanced."

Lol Catherine!
Mouse, I think there's an on-line place or, if not, there soon will be.
PS. Darn we can't do it. There's already a porn site by that name. And, no, I didn't stay long enough to see the video.

Consuelo, clearly not. The tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars it will cost to remove the mural and replace it are worth it. The new mural will show oil company executives killing Gulf-coast dolphins and giving tanks to middle eastern dictators in exchanges for barrels of oil.
(The second panel will show rising ocean levels swallowing coastal Maine and thus providing lots of jobs in the construction industries)

And the third panel would have to show the mafia invasion of legitimate businesses on one edge, while, on the other edge, the Supreme court shakes hands with several CEOs of the most predatory Multi-national corporations, and warmly welcoming them to the human race; this to commemorate that forward looking, ground breaking decision that made their companies into "persons". Guess who stands in the middle holding the proverbial "bag".
Azblue, we were too late I fear. We'll need a new name. Something Like the Gray Panthers, but not quite that same name. Put on your thinking caps, y'all!
