My mother passed away 9 yrs ago & my sister passed away 2 yrs ago. I still miss both & wish they were here. I've knitted many things for both of them. Knitting for others sure does make me feel like I'm doing something worthwhile.

Keep on knitting!

I'm with you here! My dear sister died Aug. 2010 (hardest thing I've ever dealt with), and my 88YO mother died this past Jan. 1 after 3 years of misery after a stroke. Knitting is my best mood enhancer, no doubt about it.

I am delighted these days to be knitting for little Hudson, my sister's first grandson due in late June! He will certainly know about his Grandmamas. It's like he's my first grandchild, too!

Mertle, I totally agree with you about knitting being a mood enhancer!
Just saw your bags; they are fantastic!
Congrats on your sis's first grandson, due in June!

I got back into knitting about 10 years ago when I found the yarn my mother had brought me back from ireland befores she passed away. I felt somewhat guilty about letting that beautiful aran wool just sit.

Now, knitting is my ultimate de-stresser. I find that knitting clears my mind of all the other swirling issues(kids, house, work)that I have a hard time letting go of. And it allows me to sit quietly with my boys while they do homework.

My mother passed away on Dec 31, 2003 and my grandmother on Aug 4, 2007. But neither of them knitted that I know of but they both sewed. I can remember sitting under the extension leaf of my mother's sewing machine cabinet while she was sewing something for one of us 4 kids. Then I learned to sew on that same machine when I was in jr high school. Knowing how to sew stood me in good stead when my oldest son was born. He was a preemie's weight of 3 lbs 7 1/2 ozs but was other wise full term mature baby. Low birth weight was due to second hand cigarette smoke I had to breathe while pregnant. I had to make a lot of his clothes while he was small since every thing store bought was way too big.
Now that I knit I can't find teen sized patterns that would fit him better than a man's small size would.

Daylily, another one tomorrow
