Hello everyone,

I'm new to Knitter's Review, but not new to knitting. I taught myself to knit in grad school but learned crochet at my grandmother's knee as a wee little thing. I took a 10 year break from knitting when my eldest child was a couple of years old. My hands couldn't take it, and I didn't have the concentration.

Can't say I'm in any better shape now, ha ha! But I realized that knitting small projects is better than standing about compulsively checking my smartphone and there are plenty of smaller simple projects that I could be doing while waiting for the kids at baseball practice or dance lessons. So I'm back to knitting with a vengeance.

I sew, and I love the Patternreview website for that hobby. I was delighted to find that there is something similar for knitting.

Happy knitting,
Yak

Welcome!! I too, took a break from knitting when my kids were younger. Where do you live? Love northern California. Haven't been to SoCal, yet. You will love the forums, a very supportive community.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I live in the Bay Area near the coast. It never gets really warm here and never gets really cold. Which in knitting terms means that you can wear a sweater most of the year if you dispense with the heavyweight jacket. :)

Welcome, Yakityak, from another Bay Area knitter. I like what you said about knitting getting us away from compulsively interacting with electronics. I feel similarly. Hope you enjoy KR. It's a warm community.

Welcome to the KR from a SoCal knitter! It's the best place, bar none, including facebook in imho, for connecting to knitters. I sew, too, and used to keep up to date at PatternReview, and Stitcher's Guild, too. I agree with you, small things are pretty much what I do now, being addicted to socks, Short fingered gloves and Mitts.
