Ham on bun sandwiches

12 Buttercrust rolls from bakery
2 1/2 lbs Krakus ham sliced thin
12 slices American cheese

Sandwich spread:

Mix:

1 stick butter/margarine - room temp.
1 Tbsp. finely chopped onion
1 Tbsp. poppy seed
1 Tbsp. yellow mustard

Preheat oven to 350.

Slice buns in half.

Spread sandwich spread on buns, top and bottom.

Add ham to your liking, add one slice Am. cheese.

Wrap each sandwich in aluminum foil.

Stack in tray.

Bake sandwiches at 350 for 20 minutes.
----

May be made one day ahead before baking. Can be made in bulk.

Leftovers can be reheated easily in microwave, without tinfoil, for 30 to 45 seconds - depends on microwave. Do not over heat.

Once heated in oven, they even taste good cold, without reheating. Mom used to ship these back with my brothers after a college break.

My bakery makes a smaller version of these buns, and I used this recipe for a finger food for a baby shower. We wanted something warm and not junk food, and this worked great.

My mom used to make similar sandwiches-in-foil, but I think she used tuna. I looked in her handwritten cookbook (my treasure) but the recipe wasn't there. Thanks, Greyling, this brought back nice memories.
