I purchased some Cascade SW Sport on-line to match some Red Heart Baby for a toddler blanket. It is very splitty.
I'm crocheting, and it is very slow going.
This yarn reminds me of some Lion Brand I used about 15 years ago; I had to double check every row to make sure I had picked up all the strands. I eventually scrapped the project and gave the yarn to DH to use in the garage. I don't remember the name of it, pretty sure it's discontinued.
The Cascade looks nice on-line, but has a very, very, very loose twist. I'm going through my stash to see if I can find yarn with comparable color and gauge to use instead.
The color is nice, the texture is soft, like I wanted, but I just wonder how it will hold up in the future with machine washings. I don't think I'd purchase again.

I'm sorry you've had an unpleasant experience with the Cascade ... are you speaking of the Cascade 220 SW sport? I use it all the time and love it; it has given me no problems at all (of course, I'm knitting and not crocheting), plus it endures the washer and dryer just fine. Evidently I knit with a lot of so-called "splitty" yarns (or so I see them described), so I must have learned to deal with them because I rarely have any problems.

I find, when a yarn splits, that if I use a Quicksilver crochet hook, it helps. I don't know what that coating is on a Quicksilver hook, but it seems to stop yarn from splitting. You can get them either at a big box store or a LYS.
