The yarn called for in the pattern is $19.00 and requires three skeins (I don't feel like spending almost $60 on the hat). I'm not sure if it's the yarn or the pattern I detest (it was written up so that it's knitted flat and them seamed. I made the ears and then sewed them on in the wrong place. Taking them off was nearly impossible (I had to cut one of them off and now getting the remnants out is causing great frustration. I'm really starting to hate this hat!
The yarn itself is really soft, but it's touted as being super bulky and I think it's just bulky. I think the pattern is just not suitable for the yarn. Never mind! I probably will use it again, just not with a pattern with a million loop stitches. LOL!
I'm glad to see someone else was having trouble with the pattern. I pretty much re-wrote the pattern to knit in the round and it worked up pretty quickly. I just don't think the yarn is compatible with the pattern. I had a hard time finding a reasonably priced yarn in "lion" color to make it. I finally got the misplaced ear off the hat and now have a gaping hole in the top. I'm just going to unravel down to the hole and re-knit and then crochet some ears on the top and needle-felt the facial features. I'm going to add some braided cords and tassels since pom poms are not my strong suit. Thank goodness I don't need this until the beginning of September. Whew! I want to make the elephant hat from this book, but I'm not sure now. At least a have a more suitable yarn for this.
WOW!! The label on this yarn says it is excellent for felting. No kidding! You don't even need to put it in water. If you make something with forget about unraveling and restarting.
