Is there a way to get an automated email from the Forum when someone replies to your post? I belong to an alpaca forum and you can subscribe to a topic and that way you know when there are new replies. Thanks!
Peace!

What you can do is click "Active Topics" at the top right there, and it will only show you topics that have been updated since your last visit.

alpacasofdundorwoods, I know what you mean. "Active Topics" still means we have to wade through topics and forums unrelated to our search for new replies -- and it's easy to miss the thread you're looking for, in my experience, especially if you don't remember exactly where it was or what it was titled. But I read in the FAQ the reason for disabling this. It's too bad it slowed things down, because I find it so handy on other sites.

If you click on your own name, it also lists posts you've most recently made. If in that list the folder is pink, there's been a change since you were last here, if it's yellow, no changes.

I'm happy with Clara's decision. I get way too many emails as it is, and as Amie said, checking Active Topics is easy enough.

Active Topics shows where ANYONE has posted since you last showed up, not just where you posted.

I have no intention of starting a new forum. As much as I love and enjoy this site, I find the template to be the one I like the least. Should anyone wish, I'll send links to other forums, all of which are also high user base and free.

aodw - what I do is a SEARCH for my forum name. It then lists my posts and I can check to see if someone has replied by date.

ForestBird, the problem is that the search engine rarely works.

The search works fine for me because I don't ask it to search through every bit of information that is stored. I choose clear keywords, and I don't expect it to be google. If I want google, I use it, even to do a broad KR search.
I use the Active Topics feature to see what's been going on since my last visit, and my short-term memory works well enough so that I recognize the topics I've posted to.
The bottom line: this is Clara's house, and I am her guest. I don't think it's up to me to tell her how to arrange her furniture.

I know how to use a search engine, thank you kindly.
I also have a good memory but after not being around for 12 hours the Active Topics list can be very unwieldly.
We are all guests here but when I have guests in I expect them to tell me if the things in my home don't work as they should.
