I generally avoid "designer" yarns - I haven't been impressed by Debbie Bliss, Jo Sharp, etc.

But I've found a "name" I'm sold on - Lisa Souza. I checked out the website (http://www.lisaknit.com/) because so many people raved, and I liked the colors but thought, well, I have plenty of yarn.

And then I noticed the yardage and prices.

450 yards of superwash sock yarn for $14?!
And what really blew me away was the laceweight - 2500 yards, PLENTY for a shawl (or two) for - I'm not kidding - $29.

Now, I'm a huge Lorna's Laces fan, but Helen's Lace is 1200 for about $42-45.

Anyway, what really took the cake was that I was e-mailed back within an hour of placing the order, and the yarn arrived three days - three days! - after. I ordered on the 9th, a Friday, and it arrived today, Monday. That's - wow!

The only (very mild) downside is that the sock yarn I got turns out to break one of my variegated sock-yarn color rules (it mixes dark shades with white), but that's my fault - I'll ask next time instead of hoping the color just looks that way on my monitor. I still think it'll turn out well, and the laceweight is - WOW! Gorgeous! I'm really, really sold on the mostly solid colors.

Is that too much of a rave? ;) No, I'm not affiliated, just impressed.

Molly,

I love Lisa's yarns! I'm working on a pair of socks right now with her Sock! yarn. The yarn is soft and wonderful to knit with, and best of all, I don't have to worry about running out of yarn before I finish the sock.
I'm sure you'll enjoy working with it.

I haven't tried her lace wt, I'll have to check it out when I get through a few other projects.

I did phone Lisa with a few questions about color selection and she was very friendly and helpful.

Enjoy!
Carrie

I have a couple of skeins I haven't yet started yet, but the colors are gorgeous and the yarn is very soft. Lovely.

I am a fan of Lisa's sock yarn, especially the solid colors because she has such a pretty palette. She gives quite a bit of yardage and I have enough pink left over to combine with Schaefer Anne to make more socks or a baby sweater. Ya gotta love those big fat skeins! Here's a pic of a WIP in Lisa Souza's Sock! yarn: sock & skein and you can see how much is left in the ball after the first sock is almost finished.

I'm trying to hold off until Stitches East to get some of her yarn! I may not be able to wait that long!

Lisa Souza doesn't have a store. She only sells on the internet and goes to shows. I think there is another person whose first name is Lisa that has a store in Lafayette.

Lisa also has a booth at the various Stitches and other fiber show. If she's successful it's because she has worked hard to create a great product. She is pretty much a one-woman operation and only recently did she get some part-time help. So the wonderful customer service comes directly from Lisa Souza.

Big Sky Knitting in Montana? The website? That's Janet Szabo. Or is that the name of the store in Lafayette, too?

Lisa Souza is very very friendly and nice. She only has the website and goes to shows. She's *totally* the best and her yarn *rocks*! She just did a custom dye job for me because I wanted the alpaca laceweight I ordered to be a little darker. It is so completely gorgeous. I've been staring at it ever since I got it. Yum. :)

Best,
Rosemary

Lisa Souza is MARVELOUS!!
She is a One Woman Marvel. She's kind and friendly and couldn't possibly be the person who walked right past you! It's not in her nature.
I adore her yarn and am very spoiled by it. I am lucky to have made trades with her for my buttons and she ALWAYS makes sure that I get my fair share....and then some. I am a BIG BIG FAN. Once you received the light of Lisa you will know why.....both in her wonderful yarns and Lisa's marvelous caring service.

Ok, I had no idea who owns Big Sky, so I checked- it is a Lisa, but Lisa Daniels, rather than Lisa Souza. Understandable mistake, though, since Lisa Souza is right there! And how great would that be if she had a great big store full of all of her yarns (and she was really nice and said Hi when you came in!)?

My mistake then. I just saw a picture of Lisa Souza, and not the same person at all. The owner of Big sky is also lisa souza, i think. I have seen her with both companies at the shows etc.

Regardless Owner of Big Sky is not very nice.

Kelly, you may want to consider editing your original post -- I hate to see someone get bad word of mouth when they don't deserve it. People may not page down and see there was an error.
