Hello Everyone,

I'm in South Africa now at Univ. of KwaZulu Natal and in my first homestay. Man, I miss spending time reading everyone's messages. Just at an internet cafe now, so not much time, but thought I'd start a topic about the new circulars from Lantern Moon. I picked up a pair on one of my many flights to get here (at Purl in soho in nyc). They feel nice, guess they should considering the price. Also picked up some Debbie Bliss silk on another of my flights to get here (at Lewis dept. store in London on Oxford Circus). I'm hoping to make a silk scarf with this silk and needles, as soon as I make my homestay mother the legwarmers she's requesting.

Have you all got yours yet? How do you like them?

You must have had some long layovers if you had time to get to the LYS at the airports? Glad you made it to South Africa ok.

I don't have mine yet. Knitty Noddy assures me I'll have them any day now . . .

I have received only 26" Ebonys size US 10.5 and US 11 for my store so far! I hope to get more needles in other sizes and Rosewood too this week, and the rest finally next week...

Got mine ... can't say I'm thrilled. They're just not the needle for me: not slick enough, not sharp enough, not bendy enough, and with a horrible, terrible join.

I'll probably get around to selling or swapping them pretty soon; I think no one's going to mind I put two hours of wear on them! ;)

Molly, who'd you get your needles from? Did you notify the seller of the bum experience?

I don't think it's a quality control issue; I just don't think I mesh with them. The needles are beautiful and in great shape; they're just not good for me (wood, even Rosewood, is too sticky; the points weren't sharp enough or cable bendy enough for Magic Looping the lace shawl I started on them; I'm too tight a knitter to work with those joins; etc).

Yep. Well, my stopping in NYC was not a layover, technically, since it was a separate ticket with there as my final destination. I spent the night there and went to the shop the next morning, taking a flight out later that night. My layover in London was indeed really really long, with me arriving at 9 something in the morning and leaving at 8 something at night, so I had the day to go around. It took a long time to get here.

I think I like these Destiny needles, though I haven't used them much. I was doing a little bit of work (on the leg warmers) today on some Clover circulars, which are the only size 6 needles I have with me, and I'm hating it. In part, I'm sure, because I'm using acrylic (haven't found a real yarn shop here yet, just bought some acrylic at the local supermarket), but the drag is just too much and of course it is squeaky. Driving me crazy. I think I will just knit the ribbing on top and bottom and crochet the middle part.

Okay, after further use, I think I have to agree with the comment about the join. I hate it. It's so hard to get stitches over. Such a shame, too, because it's so pretty gold colored and rotates and I quite like the actual cable. Not very pointy, so I gave up my attempt at lace work with them (though granted, I'm new at knitting and I was trying it with silk, not a very elastic fiber to begin with). I still like them, though. So pretty. And since I'm a beginner and just learning to do cables, just as with bamboo, I appreciate the bit of drag. I tried to do cables with my Addi Turbos and it was a nightmare for me. I couldn't control anything. :-(

Anyhow, just thought I'd mention that.

I got mine today. They ARE beautiful and so smooth. The join feels smooth to the touch, I'll have to try them out when I get home and see how they work.

I tried out one set of mine last night. They are incredibly smooth, I didn't have any problems with the cable or the join. But for lace knitting the points aren't quite sharp enough.

I bought size 5s and 7s and I love the needles, they feel delightful. But the joins suck. And it bugs m e that they are advertising a "seamless join" when I end up having to pick stitches up over the join with my fingernail. And I knit moderately loosely and am using sock yarn on size 5s.

Would love to try those German ebony circs. Hows the join on those?

They broke! I am so bummed. The most expensive pair of needles I have by far and they broke. I don't even know what happened, just they were on the couch one second and when I looked over (did I sit on them by accident or something?), one of the needles looked all bent. And sure enough, it was broken. Not totally snapped in two, so I still working with them as I have taped it back together, but now it looks ugly and I have to force the stitches over the little bump of tape. So sad . . .

I have to say I rather like mine (7's in rosewood and 8's in ebony). The 7's are being used with KSH, while the 8's are being used with Silk Garden. The tips are not that pointy (but I am p3tog no problem with the KSH) and the join is not lace weight friendly (but fine with the Silk Garden). So, the previous comments are accurate in my experience. It just depends on your taste as to whether these things will bug you to the extent you do not like them.

Now don't get me wrong. I love my addis, but sometimes they are too shiny for me (does anyone else think this?) so the beautiful wood is a nice (albeit luxurious) change of pace.

I'm currently working up a Fiber Trends baby blanket on size 8 with Plymouth Encore. The needles are sooooo smooth. Despite the lack of pointiness they're doing fine and I'm enjoying them tremendously.
