What does everyone think about component knitting, anyway? I've bought the books and admired the projects but, up until now, couldn't bear the thought of all those little pieces to sew up afterward. I'd feel like a construction worker swinging around steel girders, I thought, bound to knock myself out either way.
Now I find myself knitting strips of things, weird things like lace strips and cable strips and placing them together on Headless Dorcus (my dummy). So far, I haven't actually finished anything so it's too early for me to take this seriously but I just wanted to ask: what's everyone else's experience?Do you like modular knitting?

Yeah, I have to say, can't stand it either....all those seams, and then feeling like 1 down, 20 bazillion to go.
Even entrelac, I have to keep stitches live. I took a modular knitting class from Ginger Luters a while ago, and have not done anything with it. At all. And even in the class, I was like, no don't break the yarn, just turn and pick up the next round.....I hate breaking yarn.
That said, I have seen some STUNNING work in modules.

I'm with you. I have this vest sitting on Headless Dorcus for weeks now. I like how it's turning out. If I worked at it a little longer, it might even fit across my chest some day (north and south mountain create geological challenges that would thwart Sir Hillary) but...I ...can't...finish it. It's not the yarn breaking thing that gets me -- heck, I break and start new yarns all the time-- it's a flow issue.

I love the look of them when other people do them. But I can't. I just can't. I hate to sew. Hate it, hate it, hate it.

I enjoy knitting different components and sewing them togather. The stitches become part of the final piece, and makes it kind of creative. At least in theory.
