I am making a cardigan out of cotton yarn - I finished the front two pieces, the back, had knitted together the shoulders and it was time to put on the button bands. I counted, was so proud of myself when I ended up with 58 stitches on two sides. Unfortunately when I finished I realized instead of putting the bands on the middle of the front pieces I had very neatly (some of my best picking up and knitting ever) put them on the underarm seams - somehow the pieces got twisted. I am blaming Six Feet Under season 5 as I was evidently paying much more attention to that than I was my knitting. aaaggghhhhhhh

Hey - you're stealing my tricks! Thus sayeth the idiot who completed the front of her Einstein jacket in record time. Too back I had picked up the stitches on the wrong edge. That was a lot of frogging!

I can relate ... that's why I never knit while watching Six Feet Under.

Whenever I make some kinda weirdo mistake I try and rationalize it---at least you have the pleasure of knitting it again!

Will you hate me if I laugh? 'course I can laugh because I have never yet made a cardigan without knitting the left front twice.

Oh, I can sooooo relate! Cardigan..perfect fit for the buttons (6), perfect buttons, all marked, quadruple checked...picked up stitches, knit the buttons bands, nice button holes....
How in the hell I had 7 holes, I will never know.
Then there is the sewing-shoulders-picking-up-stitches-knitting-turtle-neck-then-find-back-is-wrong-sided. Not everyone can do that twice!

Hey, I've done that one (knitted the button bands onto the wrong side, under the arm)!! I'm glad you posted about it because now I feel better about it. :-)

Similarly, the last time I sewed a cardigan together, I sewed the right front to the back left shoulder, not once but TWICE! (sigh)
Somehow, I suspect moments like these are as much a part of knitting as yarn and needles. At least, they are for me.

I make it a rule never to drink and knit, no matter how little the glass is. Seems as though the least number of stitches can take forever to get through. Knit one, sip two.
