Are you looking for something like this?

My mom has a booklet, that I haven't been able to locate, that had mittens that were animals/reptiles (alligator and I don't remember what else)and the mouth was where the thumb went. You didn't see the thumb on the side of the mitten. It's a very, very old pattern because I had one when I was a child. If I can find it, I'll let you know the name of the company that published it.
