Woohoo, I got my copy today!
I think that this book will please both beginning sock knitters (with the 3 basic sock patterns that are detailed) and advanced sock knitters (with the 20 other patterns, mostly lace patterns).
The production quality is very high as with most Potter Craft books. The book is a real feast for the eyes -- I told DH that it's like a sock knitting porn book... |

Minh! I just got my copy....and it is a knock-out! err, should I say sock-out? I can not wait to get into it and start pulling out my stashed sock yarn. Lovely!

I've already flagged all the patterns I want to knit from this book, which will be my first adventure into toe-up socks. And I've got Cookie A's book in my wishlist on amazon. =)
Any chance a virtual knitalong can be arranged so I could ask questions if I get really stuck on the patterns?

I looked at this book in Borders last night. I didn't buy it, although I was tempted. Maybe one of these days. :-)
The three heels included are the short-row heel, the gusset heel (appears to be the same thing as the fleegle heel) and a toe-up heel flap heel. I'm guessing there's nothing in the front "general sock info" part of the book that isn't easily available on the Internet (including the three heels) but it can be nice to have all the stuff collected in one place.
Some of the sock patterns looked very nice, as far as I could tell. However, am I only person who wanted to grab the photographer, shake him or her, and say, "I want to see the SOCKS, not your artistic use of depth-of-field or the lovely poses of the models!" Seriously, for each sock they had a full-body picture of a artfully posed model wearing the socks (which of course meant you couldn't actually see anything about the socks except that they existed) and the main picture of the socks were all artfully blurred around the edges.
Also, note to book producers: some of the sock patterns might work well in variegated yarns for ordinary purposes, but for book photography purposes there really should be at least one example in solid yarn so we can actually see the pattern clearly. |

I find that a quick perusal of the project pages on Ravelry of any pattern will be a lot more useful in seeing a pattern that the pictures in many books.
Even in Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarn some of the sock pictures were useless in seeing what the pattern looked like. Annoying because the purpose of the book was to illustrate the use of these yarns in various sock patterns.

I agree that looking at the project pages in Ravelry really gives a much better impression how a specific item actually actually can look like and it can both ways sometimes the book picture is way too flattering and sometimes some of the project just are so much better....
Coming back to this book, I loved it and I loved especially the clear instructions to start toe up socks.

The frustrating thing is when Wendy takes pictures of socks she's knitting to post on her blog, you can always see the pattern clearly.

i bought the book the day it hit my local book store and I am a die hard top downer. The book is very nice with great technical info. I am planning on trying a couple of pair of these. I have Wendy's first book and did try the socks but in a DK weight yarn - the pattern worked but the socks were too heavy, my mistake not hers. So I will dutifully pull out a muted color of yarn so I can see what I doing and give this an honest try in sock weight yarn.

I bought this book as well and love it. In fact I taught myself how to knit toe up socks from her book. I am in the process of making the posie socks! I love them!

I bought the "sequel" yesterday,Toe-up socks for every body.
This book doesn't have a big techniques section since the focus is on patterns. The patterns are divided into three sections: lace, cables, and colorwork. I love the patterns and I am tempted to try the brown and green socks first.

Minh I got mine on Wednesday and cast on the pink girly socks on the front cover this morning . . . my little girl saw them and just had to have them!
I still need to spend some time reading the technical section and taking a better look at the rest of the patterns but it looks to be a fun book.

Hi! I ordered my copy yesterday. I learned to knit toe-up socks from my Crazy Heels and Toes Book by Mary Anne Beattie. I wanted to find a book that had some lace patterns and more to add to my sock enjoyment. After reading all the reviews on Amazon and here, I just had to get a copy!
There is another book that isn't printed yet, and I don't know how that one will be, and probably won't need it after this book, but it sounded interesting too called Socks a la Carte, Toes Up.

I don't have the book yet, but will soon. As a matter of fact, I plan on buying both of Wendy's toe-up books. Toe up is my favorite way of knitting socks and I find I'm always incorporating Fleegle's no-hole heel no matter which toe-up pattern I'm using. It's just so darned easy and what's not to like about no holes in the gussets? Thank you, Fleegle!!
