In honor of Amy Ripton's pattern, which we just published in Knitter's Review, I'm wondering who'd like to join in a veritable Hedgerowalong this summer. I have a serious hankering to break out some yarn and cast on a pair of these mitts for myself. Anyone else?

I'd love to knit along! I can practically knit that stitch pattern in my sleep!

Sorry for being stupid, but I've never done a knitalong and I don't knwo how they really work. I understadn there's one pattern that everyone agrees to do, but can you choose whatever yarn you want? Is there a set time limit to complete the project?
Would someone please explain the KAL rules?

It's pretty simple, Mindy. A whole bunch of us will just knit the pattern at the same time. You can use whatever yarn you want, and you can knit as quickly or slowly as you like. Knitalongs are fun because if you run into a problem, someone else is working on the item at the same time and will be able to help, and if you're having a lot of fun with a particular part, you can talk to the other knitters about that too. In many cases, people will post photos of their progress and finished items too.

hmmm, yeah, Frija would be great. I do love Paivatar, too ... and was thinking this weight might be a tad better for me with my not-too-slender hands. Almost definitely one or the other, because I love the cashmere in these ...
it'll either be one of those, or handspun ...

I'm afraid I had to resist buying some of the lovely Spirit Trail yarns today but would love to make these. Would sock yarn be good, weight-wise? I've got some that are variegated but not wildly so that would be pretty.

I would love to partake in this one- Ive just dyed some nice Ramboulett...I think it is perfect for this pattern....and I was wondering what to make with it....Wondering no more :)

Lanea, Clara & Jen, way to go for the pattern, this week's KR & the bee-ute-tee-full hand-painted yarns.
Yes, Clara, to a KAL.
Mindy, I'm a novice KAL-er too. As someone who knits whenever possible & is a slower but getting faster knitter, I think this project would be a terrific one.
Jen, while I have some Spirit Trail yarns in my stash, I plan to & want to purchase some other yarns from you for this pattern - will probably get them at Rhinebeck or the Retreat or if I can't wait, I'll order on line.
Look forward to reading about & seeing what folks make.

Okay, thanks! The colors are mostly pastel and I've been waiting for a LONG time to find something special to do with this yarn. Unfortunately, when I wound it, I lost the label so I honestly don't know what it is! For a long time, I thought it must be Anne by Schaefer but all of their colorways are darker so that can't be right.
So, what happens next? Do we hold on and see how many more people hop on board? Does someone set a date? This reallly sounds like fun.

I'd love to do be in a knitalong for these, too, since I can think of at least 5 people who'll want them when they see mine. <g>

Would folks be able to start it June 1st, or do you want to bump it back a week so that you have time to source your yarn?
I'll be the first to confess that although I have a house full of yarn, I still had to go over to Spirit Trail and order a new skein just for this project. Yup. Apparently I have no shame.
So what think you? June 1st or June 15th? Or June 8th? Or June 6th at 3:41pm EST? I'm open. Since I don't even have my yarn yet, and since the world apparently needs to revolve around me, I'll suggest we kick this off on Monday June 15th. (But I can quite easily and happily be outvoted. Just say the word.)

I'm good to go whenever you are.
I'll be using either sea wool, or wooly silk that I got from one of Mihn's destashes (sp?) both are in the lupine color, but look very different.
Or if I change my mind at the last minute I have a bunch of silvery grey alpaca that would also be very nice.
