My great aunt taught me to knit when I was a child with a pattern for knitted slippers. They were knit in a rectangle, rib stitch on the toe and garter stitch heel. You gathered the toe stitches into a tight circle, seamed the heel and finished them off with a pom pom on the toe. Does anybody remember these slippers? I think that I can figure out a pattern-they were pretty simple, but just wondered if anybody out there had a pattern for them. We were talking about them at work the other day-seems like all the baby boomers had at least one pair while they were growing up. We all remember how comfortable they were-and how much fun it was to slide across the floor with them on

No photo but these sound similar to what you describe, Linda.

ETA - Found this link also which includes a photo. This type of slipper are also called "tv slippers" which may help if you want to google for more results.

Thanks, ladies, those are almost exactly what I remember! I learned to knit them with a single strand of yarn, but doubling up makes sense. I want to make a pair for my friend Danny, she has fond memories of those slippers, too. Thanks again for your help.
