Perhaps this belongs under Patterns, but I thought I'd broach the question...
What is your favorite adult hoodie pattern? I'm thinking of making one for someone for Christmas. It would need to be a zippered or buttoned one (no pullovers), and preferably I'd like chunky yarn, so that I can get it knit in time...
I've seen a ton of different patterns, but figured I'd get people's opinions on which ones they liked best!

I haven't done it, but Central Park is really popular!

Well, I need something simpler, as I want to get it done by Christmas!

What about an adult-size Tomten jacket? Many years ago I made a child-size Tomten, my first EZ project, and it went pretty quickly if I remember right. Check Ravelry for the upsized pattern if you are interested.

Check out Chic Knits Basic Hoodie on Ravelry. You can omit the lace panels and it should be a quick knit.

See my Central Park Hoodie on my Ravelry page. I finished mine in about a month. You've got plenty of time. Also, I knitted mine in ONE piece, so no sewing. The tricky thing about it (and you should read what others have to say) is that it may be good to go up two sizes to get a decent fit. I also found that the sleeves were helped by adding more stitches in girth, something that happened automatically as a result of the Cowichan set-in-sleeve technqiue I used. Anyway, I've got quite the journal there, and you might want to read it before you start it up.

| I love my Central Park hoodie and found it easy, quick, and well fit without modifications. I used the Elann tweed singles, beefing it up to gauge with an add-in sock yarn that also livened the color. Really need to get it and everything else posted on Ravelry! — Chris |

I like Chic Knits Cassidy and Twist hoodies. I would put in zippers rather than buttons. I have actually started Twist, I skipped the waist shaping and I am going to use the hood from the Austin hoodie pattern because the Twist hoodie is too pointy. Whichever pattern you choose I would recommend a zipper, they are handy and look nicer. Good luck. |

| Wonderful Wallaby is my super favorite hoody pattern. I have made five of them so far in all different sizes and yarns. They have been well worn by the recipients...even the baby loves the Wallaby. I think that is a testament to the pattern. |

Wonderful Wallaby is a great pattern. I have made half a dozen, and they are a joy to knit. My niece is a GRIT (girl raised in the south) living in Albany, NY with her husband. She reported that she didn't take hers off for 7 months! I knitted it in a Bartlett yarn worsted.

This is my hands-down favorite for bulky yarn, especially bulky thick n' thin, Mari Lynn Patrick's #30 Hooded Toggle Vest -- http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/30-hooded-toggle-vest. If you don't have a source for the Vogue Knitting, Fall 2003, the vest is, thankfully, still available on the VK Website for download -- http://store.vogueknitting.com/p-576-hooded-toggle-vest.aspx.
It's a quick knit, and it wouldn't be hard to add sleeves if you want to. I loved it, and so did my daughter...not to mention, everyone who ever saw her in it!
Happy knitting!

| Thanks! It's an all-time favorite. Darryl Hannah actually modeled it for the cover of Vogue Knitting that contained the pattern originally. Happy knitting! |
