I don't know HOW I did the math wrong, but I've computed it three times today and the number of yards in the skein of laceweight yarn came out >significantly< lower than (I thought) I first calculated!
All is not lost. I can knit to the 1/5 point (the body of this sweater is 2:3, back:front) and weigh the rest of the yarn to see if I can squeak sleeves out of it. Almost there.
Not happy, and this yarn has been in my stash almost 20 years, so can't get more of it. Dang!

I weighed the remaining yarn and discovered that, 6 rows before the 1/5 point, the piece weighs in at 22g. It had to be 19 or less.
The good news is that I haven't taken it off the needles yet. I'm thinking that, with the twist in front being replaced by straight knitting with a drapy neckline, it could work. After that, I'll use whatever is left for "sleeves" (might not be much). But I'm still thinking. Usually takes me a few days. I can always frog it if I don't like how it's going (but why....).

Can you find something similar and make striped borders around the bottom and round the cuffs?

I'm still thinking about this, but I do believe there is a frog in my future.

Yes, it did, Grand-moogi. Turns out I needed the interchangeable cable it was on for another project. That's just the way it goes. To tell you the truth, I would like to find the exact yarn locally and knit it with that. It seems to deserve it! The good news is that it's a fast knit. I'll get it done.
