I learned to knit about 10 years ago through a continuing education course at the University of Memphis. I wanted to surprise my mum who is British and tried to teach me to knit when I was a child but would have nothing to do with it. I have knit scarves, hats, fingerless mittens, and a shawlette, boy was that a bugger. I have also knit one sock. Knitting is so relaxing for me.
Happy Knitting. Deborahk |

Hi Deborahk and welcome from Australia. Did you knit the other sock? and does your Mum know yet that you are knitting? Can't wait to hear her reaction. Please let us in on it.

You mum must have loved that surprise. What did you do--just pull out your needles whist on a visit, or knit her something?
Welcome to KR, Deborah.

Hi. I have Ben knitting for 30 plus years and so all sorts of knitting. Just returned from a wonderful weekend in Canandaigua NY with 115 fellow knitteratis. I wanted to get onto the Foru M to partake in the weekends afterglow! |

| Hello! My name is Jacqueline. I would introduce myself by saying, that the first time I ever saw any one knit and crochet -- I was 4 years old! I have never been so enamored with any thing in my life; and, I vowed at 4 to learn. My father helped me by taking me to the five and dime store on South Mountain Ave. in Ontario, California and purchased me one of those knitting type bobbins, yarn and needles; and after a few weeks of that, he took me back and purchased "How To" Books, more yarn, and my first knitting needles --which I still have. After that, I taught myself to knit, which, needless to say, took me years. I have been knitting and crocheting 56 years since then, and I have never tired of any of it! I am a lawyer and have raised three beautiful children to adult hood. All of you out there in Knitter's Review -- have a nice day today. Jackie |

Girllawyer, great story about how you learned to knit. Your pop was smart, and you sure were determined. Welcome to KR, from northern California.
