your "disaster" is easily saved.....give it a good brushing with a very fine brush or comb (i use the flea comb that we use on our cats periodically). it works fantastic. you can also use a cat brush (the cheap plastic kind from the grocery store). i keep one of these in my knitting bag and brush all my felted pieces for a final bit of primping before i sell them. good luck.
Beejayeles - I loved your bags and have been inspired to keep working at it until mine are just as lovely as yours. What started out as an idea for gifts has turned into an addiction and I'm determined to get it right. My biggest challenge right now is getting the felting right and then shaving the darn fuzz.
Ooooh! Great idea! I am making a felted laptop sleeve and someone mentioned in another thread to consider lint--I think a little shave now and then should take care of this. needler

I just felted hats this weekend. I bought the shapes from Hat Shapers. Working on stiffening them today. Beware, your house will smell like a hospital because the solvent uses rubbing alcohol 70%
