Hi all
There have been several questions about markers to use with Brother mylar sheets (KH910 and KH950/i) in particular. Here's what I've found...
For Knitmaster machines (Singer in Australia) I use a Pilot Super Color Silver - Extra Fine. This is more permanent than the pencils provided but can still be removed with an eraser. I'm told gold works too.
For Brother machines I have just found a black le Plume marker in a specialist craft store. It's made by Marvy/Uchida and is called a Memory Book Marker. I chose the finest one (the barrel has a slightly green tint) and this is picked up perfectly by my 950 machine.
Hope this is of use to somebody out there.
Please let me know if you have other solutions.

Possibly the best Mylar sheet pen for Brother knitting machines, is the oil based pencil which can be bought from www.BSK.co.uk (also on Ebay as Bedford Sewing Machines)and they ship items worldwide.
The best thing about these pencils is that the marks can be rubbed out very easily.
WD40, a light spray lubricator, sprayed on to a rag or tissue, then wiped over large areas of Mylar sheet pen marks, will clean a sheet very nicely. Cannot always be used on old Mylar sheets. But the nice thing about this type of spray is that it cleans the plastic sheets without damaging them.
PLEASE NOTE: The markers for Knitmaster & Brother Mylars are different. The Brother machine will NOT read the Knitmaster markings. Even if you erase the Knitmaster markings, it is unlikely that the Brother machine will be able to read any new marks you make. Possibly this is because the Brother Mylars need oil based marks and the Knitmaster uses lead.
So - if you own a Brother electroknit then don't buy used Knitmaster Mylars 'cos they won't work.
New blank Mylar sheets can also be bought from BSK although they are pink sheets made for Knitmaster - they will work with Brother machines if you make your pattern marks with a Brother pen or pencil.

Hi ladies!
A friend of mine is in need of a set of mylar sheets to go with a Brother 910 Electroknit machine. Can anyone help? I can find plain ones, but don't know if they go with the 910 or not. An original set would be great if someone is not using their machine anymore and just has a set laying around somewhere.

I have a set which I use but I can photocopy them if you're willing to put them onto blank sheets yourself.

Most machine knitting parts in Australia come via England, which means there are 2 lots of shipping costs. This makes things like Mylar sheets, pens etc very expensive.
Newsagents here have chinagraph pencils (a very old and venerable product). The black ones work quite well on Brother machines and mine cost $1.15 Australian. I think this is about 50p. A Brother pencil costs significantly more than this here.
Just remember to put a dot in each square rather than colouring in large areas or it won't be picked up by the machine.

I have found another pen that works with the Brother Mylar sheets - Kuretake ZIG Writer - which is pigment ink, acid free, waterproof and fade proof. The downside is that it takes a long while to dry - to put it mildly, it takes FOREVER to dry without the help of the hairdryer!
It is a dual-pen with one end 1.2mm and the other 0.5mm. And can be erased very easily with an ordinary pencil eraser. |

Kathleen Kinder (Electronic Knitting) recommends a black Eddings 1800 Profipen in the 0.5mm size. These are unavailable in Australia but several British stationers have them and I ordered one online to try.
Kathleen was writing for the KH910 machine but it worked just as well on my KH950.
The point is very fine so they are not suitable for large areas but are excellent for lace patterns where not many squares are coloured in. I found it very easy to see what I was doing. The felt tips mean the Mylar sheets are not damaged at all.
She also suggested a fine Marsmatic pen with Staedtler Marsmatic 747 T.9 drawing ink. These are not good because the nibs are metal and tend to damage the Mylar sheets. It worked with my KH910 but the KH950 wouldn't pick it up at all.

| I HAVE A KH-910 BROTHER ELECTROKNIT AND I NEED THE MYLAR SHEETS FOR IT. I WOULD LIKE TO FINE THE PRE PRINTED, BUT ALSO NEED TO FIND THE BLANK ONES. CAN ANYONE HELP ME. |

Mylar sheet pens - impossible to find the Brother pen BUT all you need do is buy an oil-based fibre tipped pen and draw the pattern on the REVERSE side of the Mylar sheet. That is because the computer can only read MATT black and the usual oil-based pens will leave a surface shine which the computer cannot read.
