| Hello fellow high achievers who appreciate a good ball of yarn. I have my Ph.D. in clinical psychology. Went back to school at age 37 with three young children. I think I must have been a bit insane but I did very well and have a great practice here in CT. I love to knit and to garden. I think that people who use their mind in an intensive manner need a release. Well, actually, we all do. i love the fact that Ph.D. high school grad, or drop out, all women can circle around a good knitting project. And I must say, for all of my education, I am still struggling to get the gussets on my socks correct. My grandmother did it with no education and no videos online, and no pattern. Hmmm..... |

| After posting way up in this thread about hoping to defend some time ago, I actually defend on April 2. Wish me luck. I have not any time for knitting in about 2 months! |

All of these posts are very motivational. I got a masters 14 years ago. Went to school SIX years straight!! Thought about going to law school..even took the LSAT. Don't remember how I did but was good enough to get in to the area law school...then, money was an issue. I am thinking about going back to school because I changed organizations -- went from working for a city to a hospital. I really want to go back but I do so like my free time! And I have a 12 year old son who I LOVE to spend time with. But....I do miss school.

| I'm in grad school too. I'm in a dual masters degree program in social work (M.S.W) and in Education of infant and parent development/early intervention (MS.Ed). There are no other MSWs in here? |

I'm always in school, compulsive learner, i spent 9 years almost straight doing an honours degree in applied science (specialisation - clothing) and then a doctorate along the same theme. Now 7 years latter teaching fashion design, on a degree course and doing research, I'm also part way thru a 2 year post grad diploma in tertiary teaching, and I so want to make it a masters .... why? seems easier than making the research project smaller.
some one stop the mad scientist who also wants to buy enough yarn to knit a cardigan in silver merino and silk on 2mm needles, stop me stop me stop me - oh maybe don't bother, when i comes to knitting I probably wouldn't listen any way.

I used to follow patterns, now I just make my own up as I go. Most times life is to short to read other peoples instructions - other times I really really wish I had. And my nearly one year old blog www.Knitknitfrog.blogspot.com

I hope to begin an MFA in Creative Writing in July-- it's a low-residency program with lots of travel and intensive 10-day residencies, so I expect to knit a lot more!
Knitting and writing are great companion activities, each a good break from the other.

I have my masters in linguistics and have thought about doing a PhD program (thinking of you mwedzi!).
I've also started working as a health educator, so I've thought of getting my MPH.
Currently I'm in a program to get a certificate for workplace Spanish.
The thought of doing another grad school program, while interesting, does concern me. WHERE would I find the time to knit? |

I dropped out of graduate school years ago. I was studying public administration and I really disliked it. I was working in the field at the time. Now years later living in a foriegn country I am contemplating going back to school for a Spanish degree.

Interesting to read about everyone's accomplishments. Way to go and good luck for those reaching their final steps.
I was reminded of a cute thing my mother thought of when I read the question near the start about what do you call a nurse with a PhD?
I was originally to go straight from my Bachelors degree in Geology, right into a PhD program. A few life twists came along and I didn't do that. About three years later, living in a different part of the country, with my new successful business under control and hunning along, I went back to grad school and took my Masters Degree (in geology). This regional university didn't offer PhD programs, anyways,... my proud mother would say that I wasn't a Doctor of Geology, but that I was a Nurse of Geology. Very cute!

Just thought I'd post an update. I am now half way through my Master's program. I'm taking a break this semester because my personal life went to he11 last semester and taking two classes while working full time was just too much. I feel as though I can see the end even though I only take one or two classes at a time.

Saw this post started a while ago, but thought I'd add to it - I'm in my second year of my Ed.S. in School Psychology. It's a 66 credit program, and I've got 41 done as of December, working on another 10 this semester. Looking for an internship right now, which will be a full-time (unpaid - in this area) deal for the 08-09 school year. Will be graduating May 2009.

I finished Industrial Psych and have been a business consultant for almost 5 years now. And now I am looking for something that is interesting that's beyond my field. Learning is my passion.

All I have is a Bachelor's degree in Music (Education), but I'm published like 9 times over, so I guess I'm well beyond post-doc by now!
