Knitter's Review
April 14, 2011
Looney Tunis and jelly beans

We're playing with Tunis wool this month as part of the Knitter's Book of Wool Woolalong. It's one of the oldest sheep breeds in the U.S., with roots going back to a flock of very confused sheep sent here in 1799 by the Bey of Tunis.

While sourcing yarns for us to swatch this month, I discovered a happy flock of Tunis sheep in upstate New York. Their fleece is sent to the Green Mountain Spinnery for minimal processing and spinning, then offered to the public under the charming name Looney Tunis.

This Weekend
The 32nd annual Shepherds' Extravaganza sheep, wool, and craft show takes place at the Western Washington Fairgrounds in Puyallup, Washington, as part of the Puyallup Spring Fair. Meanwhile, Atlanta will be buzzing with knitters as Stitches South takes over the Renaissance Waverly & Cobb Galleria Centre this Thursday through Sunday. And Minneapolis is already preparing for the Textile Center's 11th annual World's Largest Textile Garage Sale, which takes place on Saturday, April 16 from 8am to 5pm. Expect anything, from fabric and yarn to sewing machines and looms.

In the Forum: When Yarn Runs Low
I laughed when I read this one: Whenever Zola is working on a project and knows she's about to run out of yarn, she knits faster. The idea being that, somehow, she'll squeak in before the skein runs out. Do you do this?
