Knitter's Review
January 30, 2014
Baby Alpaca Magna up close

Are you as tired of hearing about this winter weather as I am talking about it? Never have handknits seen more action than they have in the past two months. Everywhere I go, I see hats, scarves, cowls, and mittens on parade. The closets have been raided, the woolens are getting used.

I'm partial to the giant cowl myself. This week I bring you a yarn so well-suited to the task, you could basically pop off the label, slide the skein around your neck, and be done with it. The yarn is Baby Alpaca Magna, and I liked what I swatched.

Next Weekend
Head down to Oxford, Mississippi, for the Oxford Fiber Festival, which takes place January 31 through February 3rd at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center. Workshops run the gamut from beaded crochet to rug hooking, beginning tatting, and my favorite, "Rolags to Riches." Then on Saturday, February 1st, the eighth-annual Knit Michigan takes place at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The volunteer-led event is dedicated to raising funds for Michigan cancer organizations through a marketplace, a silent auction, and workshops.

In the Forums: Wheel for Beginner?
Donna has been spindle-spinning for a while and is ready for a wheel. The only problem? She doesn't live near any shops, so she needs something she can easily figure out on her own. What would you recommend?

As always, I thank you for letting me be a part of your knitting life.

We'll talk again on February 13th!
