Online Yarn Shops
I came across ForKnitters.com quite by accident while perusing a yarn-related bulletin board. What a pleasant surprise!
Owner Jennifer Dexter was trained as a graphic designer, and her design flair translates beautifully to this yarn-shopping site. It's relatively small and uncluttered, but visually beautiful.
Jennifer's photographs alone are works of art -- colorful skeins in a basket, mixed with fresh herbs in a wheelbarrel, on a wall backed by tall grass, etc. When you click on the yarn images you'll get larger versions that show excellent detail of the actual fiber.
You'll quickly notice that Jennifer has excellent taste in yarn. She carries top-of-the-line materials. For those on a tight budget, there's also a sale section featuring a small but decent selection of yarns.
The site launched in August 2000 and continues to expand. In February 2001, Jennifer opened The Fiber Shop in Grand Haven, Michigan to accompany her online presence. Not only did she realize a lifelong dream, but she's also spreading the joy of knitting with fine materials.
Jennifer is constantly adding new yarns to her site, so if you don't see what you like, do bookmark it and come back periodically.
The Order Process
My order arrived without delay. Each skein had been individually wrapped in tissue paper, and my one-page pattern was in a clear plastic sheet guard. If you're not entirely sure about the yarn, Jennifer will send you a swatch. That's the kind of personalized service I like to see in an online store.
Jennifer currently stocks the following yarns: Rowan, Tahki/Stacy Charles, Classic Elite, Great Adirondack, On Line, Berroco, Muench/GGH, Garn Studio, Artful Yarns, Naturally, Baabajoes, Vittadini, JCA, Dale of Norway, Horstia, Unique Kolours, Mission Falls, Trendsetter, Jaeger, Noro, Jo Sharp, Debbie Bliss, Mondial, Mountain Colors, and Sirdar.

"The Fiber House/ ForKnitters.com is the ONLY place I will ever shop. The customer service is superb, Corey, Allison, and Jen (the owner) will go out of their way to make sure you get the knitting supplies that you need. Your order comes quickly and your yarns are wrapped in tissue papers and your patterns in see thru plastic covers. You are not only getting quality service but the kind of service that is unpretentious and makes you shop there the next time. I strongly recommend For Knitters.com." nfricke, 12/26/2001
"I found forknitters.com randomly and fell in love with it. The personal attention is comforting, its nice to know who you are actually ordering from. I had no problems with my order and found that everything was packed by hand. There is something to be said about personal attention over the internet. Plus her taste in yarns is absolutely superb!
"I can't be more excited about her new store. Unfortunately, I live in LA and won't be able to visit. But you can be sure whenever I am in Chicago or Detroit, I will definitely make her store a priority to pop in." Allison, 01/20/2001
